Myung-Whun Chung’s long and outstanding musical career is marked by his appointment as Direttore Emeritus at Filarmonica della Scala in Milano since 2023, the first ever in their history; Principal Guest Conductor of Dresden Staatskapelle, also the first ever in their history; Honorary Music Director at Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in Paris and KBS (Korean Broadcasting System); his recent appointment as Artistic Director at the new Busan Opera and Concert Hall in South Korea.

Maestro Chung also held titles as Music Director at the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of Teatro Comunale in Firenze, Principal Conductor of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Roma and Music Director of the Opéra de Paris-Bastille. Throughout his career, Maestro Chung has conducted some of the world’s leading orchestras in Europe, Asia and the USA.

Maestro Chung is the recipient of numerous prizes, including Commandeur de la Légion d’Honneur from France, Commendatore dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia and Grande Ufficiale dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana from the Italian government, the Premio Abbiati for outstanding conducting the Orchestra of La Fenice in Venezia, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Roma and Filarmonica della Scala in Milano. He was also presented with the keys to the city of Venezia and in 2024 the keys to the city of Firenze. He was awarded Keumkwan, the highest culture award of the Korean government.

In 2008 Myung-Whun Chung was designated the first conductor named as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
