Nicolò Balducci is one of the most prominent young countertenors on the European scene. Recent engagements include his debut as Nerone in Incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi at the Palau des Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, conductor Leonardo Garcia Alarçon, production by Ted Huffman, revived in Toulon and Köln; Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart n Ferrara, conductor Massimo Raccanelli; in October 2023 Nicolò Balducci sang in Zingarelli’s Giulietta e Romeo at the Opéra Royal de Versailles, where he later performed Händel’s Messiah, Nerone in Incoronazione di Poppea with the ensemble Les Épopées, recorded on CD, and in June 2024 Vivaldi’s Gloria and Imeneo. At Teatro Sociale in Rovigo, he sang in the modern première of Ristori’s Pigmalione, a production awarded the Abbiati Prize. Between April and June 2024, he sang Lucio Silla at the Landestheater Salzburg, conducted by Carlo Benedetto Cimento. At Ravenna Festival he made his concert debut with the Ensemble Salomone Rossi. In 2022 he sang at the Festival della Valle D’Itria in Cavalli’s Xerse under the baton of Federico Maria Sardelli, production by Leo Muscato. He also participated in a tour in Italy, Switzerland and Germany with the Orchestra Toscanini di Parma as a soloist in Arvo Pärt’s Stabat Mater and sang in the soundtrack of Marco Bellocchio’s film Rapito.
Born in Canosa di Puglia in 1999, Nicolò Balducci studied opera singing with soprano Anna Maria Stella Pansini and graduated with top marks from the Conservatory of Vicenza, improving then with Gemma Bertagnolli; he then attended the Vivaldi Academy of the Cini Foundation in Venezia. Nicolò Balducci won several international competitions, including the ‘Cesti Competition’ in Innsbruck, the ‘Renata Tebaldi Competition’, the ‘Niccolò Piccinni Competition’, the ‘Voci Olimpiche Competition’ under the artistic direction of Andrea Marcon, which was followed by his debut as Oberto in Händel’s Alcina at Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza. Since 2020, he has been recording exclusively with BIS and the Ensemble Dolce Affetti conducted by Dan Laurin, with whom he has toured Sweden and Italy.
