Recent highlights for American tenor Erin Caves include his much acclaimed role-debut as Tristan in Tristan und Isolde at Oper Stuttgart under the baton of Sylvain Cambreling and the same role at the l’Opéra national de Bordeaux conducted by Paul Daniel. The success of Tristan has led to many other invitations to interpret the role such as at the Badische Staatstheater Kalsruhe and in concert with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo.
Most recently Erin Caves performed Walther von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Komische Oper Berlin and in his house debut at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the role-debut of Herman in Pique Dame at Oper Stuttgart, as well as production of Tristan und Isolde at he Teatro Nacional de Sâo Carlo in Lisbon. Highlights in 2017/18 were his role-debut as Parsifal at the Vlaamse Opera, a reprise of Pique Dame at Oper Stuttgart as well as Hagenbach in La Wally at Volksoper Wien. In season 2018/19 he sings Florestan (Fidelio) at National Theatre Prague and Teatro Comunale di Bologna or the Offizier (Cardillac) at Opera Vlaanderen. Other recent appearances include the role of the Don José in Carmen at Oper Stuttgart, Emperor in the world-premiere of the opera El Público by composer Mauricio Sotelo and conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado at Teatro Real in Madrid, Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos at Oper Stuttgart under Michael Schonwandt and Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer at Theater St. Gallen, Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Oper Stuttgart.

Erin Caves sang Sellem in Stravinsky’s The Rake´s Progress at Staatsoper Berlin, Hans Schwalb in Mathis der Maler at Oper Zürich under the baton of Daniele Gatti, Alwa in Lulu at Theater Basel, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Oper Graz and Aalto Theater Essen, Tambourmajor in Wozzeck at Theater St. Gallen, Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer at Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Aalto Theater Essen and Staatstheater Kassel, Walther von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Staatstheater Kassel, Max in Der Frieischütz at Staatstheater Nürnberg, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Oper Stuttgart and Oper Zürich, Loge in Das Rheingold at Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, Nationale Reisopera, Aalto Theater Essen and Staatsoper Hannover and Fatty in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny at the Vlaamse Opera. He perfomed the title role in Les contes d’Hoffmann at Komische Oper Berlin, Staatstheater Kassel, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Theater Magdeburg and Theater Winterthur and at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, where he was member of the ensemble, his repertoire included Siegmund in Die Walküre (including a DVD release by Arthaus in 2009), Florestan in Fidelio, Hans in Die Verkaufte Braut, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Ismaele in Nabucco, Segej in Lady MacBeth von Mzensk as well as the title roles in Werther and Don Carlos.

On the concert platform highlights include Mahler´s Das Lied von der Erde with the Staatstheater Stuttgart, a piece he also performed under Ralf Weikert at the Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern and with conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev at the Opernhaus Zürich. He sang 8 Romanze per Tenore e Orchestra (Verdi/Berio) with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra Moscow and the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, both under the baton of Vladimir Fedoseyev and Schinittke’s Faust Cantata opus 167, “Seid nüchtern und wachet” with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio at the Salle Pleyel in Paris.

Erin Caves was raised in Stockton, California, and completed his musical estudies at the Yale University School of Music and The Juilliard School. He apprenticed with Central City Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Glimmerglass Opera, Chautauqua Opera and began his European career at the Dutch International Opera Centrum in Amsterdam.
