Andrea Marcon was awarded the Händel Prize 2021 by the Händel-Haus Foundation in Halle.  Invited by Teatro alla Scala in 2023 he conducted Li zite ‘ngalera by Leonardo Vinci, followed by the first performance in Venezia of  Il Trionfo  del Tempo e del Disinganno by Händel .  He has frequently collaborated with Frankfurt Opera (Giasone, Rodelinda, Ariodante, Orlando Furioso, Medée), Theater Basel (Idomeneo, Alcina, La Calisto, Fairy Queen, Orfeo), Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam (Juditha Triumphans, Ariodante),    BAM in New York (Siroe),  Bolshoi in Moscow (Alcina), the Aix-en-Provence Festival (Ariodante and Alcina), and also with Palau de la Musica in Valencia (Ariodante).   He frequently collaborates as a guest conductor with symphony orchestras such as  Berliner Philharmoniker, Münchener Philharmoniker, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, WDR Koln, NDR Hannover, HR Frankfurt, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, Danish National Orchestra, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Bremer Philharmoniker, Camerata Salzburg, Mozarteum Salzburg, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Freiburger Barockorchester and Concerto Köln.   He has conducted numerous concerts focusing on symphonic compositions by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert,Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms.    He has collaborated with wellknown directors such  as  Jorge Lavelli, Barry Kosky, Achim Freyer, Andrea Cigni, Jan Bosse, Kathy Mitchell.

As an internationally recognised specialist in the baroque repertoire,  he has brought to light previously unpublished or forgotten operas  by Cavalli, Vivaldi, Alessandro and Benedetto Marcello, Caldara, Galuppi and Cimarosa.    Recent engagements include Händel’s Alcina at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, Händel’s Rinaldo in Lausanne and, after the success of Händel’s Parnasso in festa, he conducted the premiere at the Halle Festival of Händel’s Giulio Cesare (in the 1725 version). In Basel last December, he conducted Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with La Cetra.

After inspiring and co-founding the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca (1982), he founded the Venice Baroque Orchestra (VBO) in 1997. Since 2009 he has been the artistic and musical director of La Cetra in Basel, and from 2013 to 2019 he was the artistic director of the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Granada.     Professor of Harpsichord and  Organ  at the Musik Akademie of the city of Basel/Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, he is often invited to give masterclasses in Europe, Japan and South Korea. His concert activity with La Cetra Basel (focusing mainly on masterpieces by Monteverdi, Bach, Haendel) and with the VBO in Europe, the USA, Canada, South America and Asia is intense.

Conductor, organist, harpsichordist, Andrea Marcon was born in Treviso, studied in Venice, Castelfranco Veneto, Basel and graduated in Organ, Harpsichord and Early Music at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in 1987.  First prize for organ at the Hofhaimer Competition in Innsbruck (1986), first prize for harpsichord in Bologna (1991), he studied with Jean Claude Zehnder, Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini, Hans Martin Linde, Hans van Nieuwkoop, Jesper Christensen, Harald Vogel and Ton Koopman.

He has recorded over 80 CDs and received numerous awards: Deutschen Schallplatten Kritik, Diapason D’Or, Choc du Monde de la Musique, Echo Klassik Award , Edison Prize, Vivaldi Prize of the Cini Foundation in Venice.

In 2017, the Municipal administration of the city of Treviso awarded him the Totila d’Oro.
