Benjamin CHO

BARITONE

Born in 1989 in South Korea, Benjamin Cho achieved his degree at the University of Arts of South Korea . In 2009 he made his debut as Pappageno in Die Zauberflöte and in 2010 he sang  Guglielmo in Così fan tutte at Seoul Art Center. He then attended the Music Academy of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Firenze. He sang Mustafà of L’ Italiana in Algeri at Teatro dell’Opera in Florence, at Teatro Goldoni he sang the main role of Der Kaiser von Atlantis by Ullmann. In 2016 he sang in La Traviata at the Giardino di Boboli in Florence. He made his debut in Turin in October 2016, singing Schaunard in La Bohème at the Teatro Regio, under the baton of Noseda, production by Alex Ollé. He sang La Scuola dei Gelosi by Salieri in Legnago, Verona, Jesi and Firenze. At the Edinburgh Festival 2017 he was Schaunard in La Bohème, with Noseda as a conductor, he sang Marcello in La Bohème at the Opera in Firenze in September 2017, conductor Ciampa. He made his debut as Valentin in Gounod’s Faust in Modena, Reggio Emilia and Piacenza. In 2018 he was invited by the Festival of Wexford to sing Oracolo by Leoni and Malavita by Giordano. At the beginning of the year 2019 he was Germont in La Traviata at Teatro Comunale of Piacenza and at Teatro Galli of Rimini . He sang Haly of L’Italiana in Algeri , conductor De Marchi, at Teatro Regio in Torino , followed by Carmina Burana at Teatro dell ‘Opera in Roma conducted by Roberto Gabbiani.
Bajamin Cho in 2020 received the first price at the International Competition Maria Caniglia and in 2017 the second price at the Iternational Competition of Portofino . In 2013 he ranked third at the International Competition Vinas where he was also awarded the Junior prize; he was awarded with the Toti Dal Monte price for the opera La Bohème and he was invited to sing the roles of Marcello and Schaunard at Teatro Comunale Mario del Monaco of Treviso, at Teatro Comunale of Bolzano, at the Teatro dell’Aquila of Fermo, the Teatro Comunale of Ferrara, conductor Lanzillotta. He sang several concerts in Italy and Korea, among which the concert to celebrate 130 years of diplomatic relationships between Italy and Korea at the Seoul Arts Center.
