Sonig TCHAKERIAN

VIOLIN

Armenian-born violinist Sonig Tchakerian spent her childhood in Aleppo where she began studying violin with her father. After moving to Italy, she studied with maestros such as Salvatore Accardo, Giovanni Guglielmo, Franco Gulli and Nathan Milstein.

A prize-winner in various international competitions – at Paganini in Genova, ARD München, Gui in Firenze – she has been invited by the Royal Philharmonic in London, Bayerischer Rundfunk in München, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, i Pomeriggi Musicali, Teatro di San Carlo in Napoli, Arena di Verona, i Solisti Veneti, Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, collaborating with conductors such as Piero Bellugi, Antonio Janigro, Emil Tchakarov, Daniele Gatti, Daniele Rustioni, Claudio Scimone. She has collaborated with Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto and Solisti Aquilani as solo violinist and conductor.

Her discography includes Vivaldi’s Seasons and Mid Seasons (Decca), J. S. Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas (Decca), Beethoven’s Sonatas Op. 23, 24 and 47, (Deutsche Grammophon), Paganini’s Capricci Op. 1 (Arts ), Barber’s Concerto and Bernstein’s Serenade (Amadeus), Haydn’s Concertos (Arts), Vieuxtemps’ Concerto n. 5 and Saint-Saëns’ Rondò capriccioso  (Audiophile Sound), the complete works for violin and piano by Ravel, the complete trios by Beethoven, Schumann and Schubert with Trio Italiano. Her latest recording project was the  Mozart concertos with cadenzas written for her by Giovanni Sollima (Universal Classics & Jazz).

Composers Ambrosini, Campogrande, Boccadoro, Mosca, Dall’Ongaro, Perocco composed for her.

Luis Bacalov dedicated  her a version for violin and strings of Piazzolla’s Seasons (Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas)

Giovanni Sollima wrote cadenzas for Mozart’s concertos for her  as well as  Tigran Mansurian composed Monodia for solo violin for her.

She is a teacher of the Alta Formazione courses at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Roma .  She  has been Artistic Director of the Settimane Musicali at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza since 2019.
